With the commissioning of one of Okuma’s largest CNC 5 Axis Vertical Multitasking Machines, Wetherill Park, NSW based Sharp Tooling continues its policy of offering something special whilst keeping ahead of the market. This ISO 9001 Quality Assured Company was founded in 1986 by Managing Director Albert Carrion who, with a background in process engineering, operated all manual machines before buying a small CNC lathe early on in the company’s history.

The latest purchase by the company is the very large Okuma Model VTM-2000YB with OSP-P300SA-H Controller and accessories. This 5 axis machine has a 2400mm Swing Capacity with a 1400mm Turning Height. It also has a Capto C8, 60 Tool Automatic Tool Changer.

Such is the size of this machine that global support engineer, Mr Toriumi from Okuma Japan, and Australian resident Okuma engineer Mr Shimizu supported by Okuma NSW engineers were all on hand for its installation and commissioning at this Sydney based engineering company.

“This is my second Okuma machine and I have been overwhelmed with the technical support, information and training which we continue to receive for this latest multi-tasking machine even under COVID-19 conditions,” said Albert Carrion. “This is the largest Okuma machine of its type in Australia and its precision, outstanding rigidity and 5 axis capabilities are impressive and will take us into new markets. We now have the capability of new large general engineering jobs with opportunities to provide even greater service to our customers” he said. “I have always strived to offer something special for my customers and we can now offer large machining jobs of 2m x 1.4m capacity in different materials,” commented Albert.
