A Company Focused on Innovation and Operational Excellence
Rosebank Engineering Australia, part of RUAG Aviation, a division of the Swiss Government-owned RUAG Technology Group, is an exemplary example of everything excellent in Australian engineering.
Based in Melbourne’s outer suburb of Bayswater, Rosebank Engineering combines authentic Australian innovation with Swiss precision with know-how and state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure delivering on full system level engineering-based MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) for defence forces as well as on high precision manufacturing of components for the defence and aerospace industry.
With such customers as the Australian Department of Defence (Air, Land and Marine), Boeing Defence Australia, UTC Aerospace Systems Landing Gear and Actuation Systems Division, Royal Malaysian Air Force, BAE Systems, Qantas Defence Services, Standard Aero, Turbomeca Australasia, Sikorsky Aircraft Australia Limited (SAAL, Helitech, SAC), Honeywell Aerospace, the company operates under the most demanding quality assurance programs with regular on-going audits.
The company’s equally impressive list of quality assurance approvals and accreditations include: ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems, AS 9100C Quality Management Systems – Requirements for Aviation, Space and Defence, AQAP 2110, CASA Part 145, DGTA Authorised Engineering Organisation (AEO), DGTA Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO), Nadcap for NDT, Chemical Processing, Paint and Shot Peening.
The company implements high levels of internal and external training for its staff of more than 134 personnel and embraces lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principals with full staff engagement resulting in improvements in teamwork, quality, schedule adherence and on-time delivery to its customers.
With expertise in undercarriage systems, flight control systems, fuel systems and environmental control systems Rosebank Engineering specialises in:
- component / system level deeper maintenance;
- non-destructive testing, repair and overhaul of repairable items;
- design engineering, including research & development;
- adaptation and modification;
- build-to-print manufacture of airframe related components;
- assembly and testing;
- specialised treatments and finishing.
High levels of component reliability and affordability are achieved through innovative engineering applications and expertise in aeronautics, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, materials and processing.
The latest engineering simulation software is used to enable the simultaneous analysis of parts for behaviour under numerous physical forces through robust non-linear analysis plus 3D computational fluid dynamics.
Machining capabilities performed to the highest quality standards on well maintained, modern machines operated by experienced machinists include milling, turning, boring, gun drilling, grinding, honing and shot and flap peening.
As part of the additive manufacturing capability Rosebank also maintains supersonic particle deposition and laser cladding systems enabling worn parts to be reconstructed and again made serviceable.
Okuma, with its world leading machinery is assisting in maintaining a competitive edge with up-to-the minute technology. Okuma provides after sales service which includes training, programming etc which Rosebank has previously utilised.
The latest plant to be commissioned is the Okuma Millac 800VH, a highly sophisticated modern 5-axis multi-plane machining centre combining high speed with high rigidity, secured by a box type bed and rectangular wide sliding surface. Large ball screws and rigid supports with pre-tension provide stability and accuracy and multi-face machining capability allows for the machining of highly complex work pieces in a single setup. Reducing the setup time is a rotary two pallet automatic pallet changer system as standard.
The specifications of this 5-axis vertical machining centre are as follows:
- Pallet size – 800mm square | - Spindle Speed: 10,000 RPM
- X – axis 1020mm | - Tool Magazine holds: 80 tools
- Y – axis 1020mm | - Accuracy: 0.001 mm
- Z – axis 1020mm | - Okuma’s 3D OPS CNC System
- A axis (head) -30º to +120º | - On-board Automatic Gauging System
- C axis (table) 360º | - Collision Avoidance System (CAS) |
