Okuma Australia is proud to sponsor two particularly innovative, engineering centric student educational programs.

The Melbourne University Racing [MUR] group is comprised of mostly final year Melbourne University Engineering faculty students. The faculty is an on-going participant in the world wide Formula SAE program.

The challenge is to build a small racing car equipped with predetermined design features with measurable design outcomes and compete with other teams. This program is famous.

Part of the MUR challenge is to not only design suspension, brake, transmission, engine and a host of ancillary parts for the MUR team vehicle, but the parts have to be produced. Okuma Australia offers a MUR access to the manufacturing of the parts they design and they need. This is an annual arrangement between Okuma Australia and MUR.

Okuma’s invitational Tafe Incentive Scheme [TIP] is an innovative scheme devised by Okuma.

Each year, Okuma Australia sponsors up to 8 students for work experience inside Okuma Australia. It comprises comprehensive work that covers all aspects of our business from sales and service to application engineering. As we compete every day in our business, the students all compete for the Okuma TIP Student of the Year award. The winner visits Japan accompanied by our representatives and will experience either the Okuma Machine Fair or JIMTOF [depending on the year], guided tours of the 6 Okuma plants and a move on to a full tour of the 144 hectares of pure technology at Fanuc’s world famous Mt Fuji complex.
